Japan Recall's Candy

Melamine was found to be in five products sold in Japan and imported from China. A Japanese food corporation has recalled the  products after determining they contained the chemical melamine. Tainted milk products are being blamed for killing four children and in China and causing illness in more than 50,000 kids.

Japanese officials stressed  that although there were no reports of sickness from eating candy that was made with ingredients from China the recall was issued as a preventative measure. Tokyo’s Marudai Food company found evidence of melamine in all the products it tested.

There was more bad news for Japan when Ito-Yokado supermarkets removed tainted Chinese beans from its shelves. A customer who had consumed the beans was hospitalized after showing signs of illness with vomiting and numbness in her mouth.

Nicherei Foods who distributes the Chinese beans issued an apology and the Chinese manufacturer of the products, Yantai Beihai Foodstuff Co., ceased shipping the products. When the Japanese health ministry tested the beans they found dangerous levels of dichlorvos, a highly toxic insecticide.

Earlier this year, Japan faced another recall on Chinese made dumplings.  Several people became sick and when tested the dumplings were found to have insecticide.
